The De Stefani family is originally from Refrontolo, a hilltop village in the Veneto region of Italy, as stated in official documents from 1624.
In the second half of the 1800s, Valeriano De Stefani, the founder, identified the best areas to produce wines with distinct personality on the Colvendrame estate in Refrontolo, on the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, just north of Venice.
His son Valeriano, second generation, encouraged by his fussy wife Angelina, put the practice the De Stefani have since adhered to in pace: total dedication to uncompromising quality.
Tiziano, third generation, extended the vineyards into the Piave valley, selecting two farms, Le Ronche in Fossalta di Piave and Pra 'Longo in Monastier di Treviso, both north-east of Venice and located near the Adriatic sea and the Dolomite mountains. Areas with great potential thanks to their "caranto" soil make up: a mixture of white clay and minerals from the Dolomites. Respecting ancient family traditions, he introduced significant qualitative innovations into vineyard management and vinification methods.
Today, Alessandro De Stefani, fourth generation, produces wines according to a truly natural philosophy, using very high density old vines. By valuing the native vine varieties, he has developed a worldwide distribution network, with a limited production of 400,000 bottles per year, produced on 60 hectares of vineyard. De Stefani wines are often mentioned in the most important wine guides.
Tiziano and Alessandro, now joined by his wife Chiara, are to this day the De Stefani oenologists and sign every single bottle that leaves their cellars.
