Founded in 1991 and based in Mugello, Lunica is a leader in the distribution of fruit and vegetables, well known for having its local territory and raw materials at heart.
It works closely with medium-small and very small local companies, which often involves organisational challenges. But the company is proud of its works as it believes the local network must be supported, not changed.
Since 2016, the company has been a frontrunner in the “Multifiliera del Mugello” project, the largest integrated supply chain project in Tuscany, investing up to 8 million euros alongside 40 partner companies. In 2019, this project also made it possible for Lunica to produce cereal flours, jams and fruit juices using the best raw ingredients from the Mugello short supply chain.
For years it has been working on complete product traceability and quality control by creating direct production chains with the farmers, who work the fields in close collaboration with qualified technicians.
It has supported methods of integrated and organic farming in its supply chains since long before these became buzzwords on the market. Always on the look out for varieties that are resistant to pests and adverse environmental conditions. Where can you find them? In the farming traditions of our hills and mountains. And in various collaborations with research institutions such as the Sant'anna secondary school and the Universities of Florence and Pisa.
