The Schenatti company is the result of the artisan approach of Giuseppe Della Morte, a master distiller and one of the famous "grapat" of Val San Giacomo. The company was founded in the early 1960s and specializes in the production of traditional Valtellina grappas and liqueurs based on grappa, Valtellina fruits and herbs. In 1998 another Giuseppe Della Morte, grandson of the master distiller and son of Umberto (the founder of Schenatti), expanded the firm’s production, relaunching the historical Della Morte brand, with typical regional liqueurs and single-variety Italian grappas. And so two classic names in Valtellina distilling history came together, under the name of Distillerie Riunite Schenatti & Della Morte.
Schenatti & Della Morte Grappa is obtained by distilling fresh nebbiolo pomace from the classic DOCG areas of the upper Valtellina, such as Grumello, Sassella, Inferno, Valgella, Maroggia and the sought-after pomace of "sforzato" wine (so called for the particular practice of "forcing" sun-dried grapes), which arrives in the distillery after a long fermentation process, only made possible thanks to the use of indigenous yeasts. Selected Valtellina apples and berries undergo a slow infusion in the finest Valtellina grappa to make the delicate digestive fruit liqueurs which are a lively alternative to traditional grappa flavour.
