Cà San Sebastiano is an ancient farmhouse which has been turned into a charming guesthouse, located in the delightful hilltop village of Monferrato, listed by UNESCO since 2014. Besides guided tours of the winery, we offer guests charming rooms and apartments for weekends and short breaks or week-long programmes of relaxation and vinotherapy treatments, a day spa with a heated pool, exclusive wellness suite and outdoor pool.
The adjoining restaurant offers local cuisine with an innovative touch and is open to guests and the general public every weekend from Friday to Sunday, and at other times subject to booking.
Our winery has a long history with ancient origins, beginning with the fall of Charles V in Italy in the sixteenth century. Originally from Burgundy, our family supported the Emperor in his war with French king François I. In recognition of services rendered to the emperor, the first winery was built here in Monferrato, carved out of the tufa rock. It was located in the centre of the vineyards – where traces of the ancient settlement can still be seen – and operational until the late seventeenth century, when a second winery was built in one of the family’s houses in the village; this was used until 1867, and today is the home of the Spa Acquavitae.
The present-day winery was built in 1961; it is divided into rooms for initial processing, with fibreglass and steel tanks (the old concrete tanks, now disused, are still there for decoration), rooms for longer ageing of more complex wines, with oak tonneaux and barriques, and areas for bottling and storage.
Since then, like the production techniques, a love for wine and for the land that produces it – the hills of Monferrato Casalese, rich in traditions and history – has been handed down from father to son.
Our winery awaits your visit for a unique tasting of the wines we produce: Barbera and Grignolino.
