The Sgarzi family has been growing grapes and producing wine for generations at Castel San Pietro Terme, a charming town on the "Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori", a route of gastronomic delights, winding through hills and valleys, where Emilia meets Romagna. This is an area where the art of winemaking has been handed down through the ages since ancient times. The first official recognition of the Sgarzi family’s winemaking abilities dates back to 1933, when the current owner’s grandfather, Luigi Sgarzi, had a small winery that provided barrels and horses for Bologna’s famous taverns. Cantine Sgarzi has always sought to promote authenticity, consistency of production and wine culture, while fully respecting tradition. And so, alongside local production, the company has gradually built up its exports, today an important part of the business with a distribution network in more than eighty countries.
