This wine has been chosen by the Frescobaldi family to continue the tradition of reserving a private collection for its newcomers. It originates from the oldest vines of Castello Nipozzano, that feature a deep root structure. A greatly complex and harmonious wine that is aged for 24 months in oak barrels, according to ancient Tuscan traditions.
Vinification and aging: harvesting takes place at the end of September. The fresh grapes are immediately transported to the cellar. After being destemmed, the spontaneous natural fermentation process begins in cement vats. Once this is over, the wine is left in the vats to conclude the maceration process.
Its journey continues in 30hl wooden barrels, where the wine is left to age for 24 months. It then spends a period in the bottle to allow for greater balance between all the components, and making it possible to fully appreciate its true essence once the bottle is uncorked. Vecchie Viti (old vines) is the perfect expression of a great vintage. It has an intense, brilliant ruby red colour. The floral and fruity bouquet is perfectly integrated with notes of spice. Rose-hip and Violet stand out the most and are balanced with hints of small red berries. The aroma is complemented by a persistent balsamicity and elegant toasting. On the palate, it is silky with a fine tannic texture. The acid component is perfectly balanced with the alcoholic component. The finish is long and persistent.
Behind every Frescobaldi wine beat the hearts of the people, agronomists and winemakers who work closely with the vineyards and the terroir in capturing its very essence.
