The history of Roccapesta is one of a company linked closely to its territory, on the borders of Tuscany, where nature retains a wild charm and opposites attract. Where the volcanic heat of the Amiata reaches the waves of the Mediterranean, where rocks mix with clay.
Roccapesta is first and foremost the story of a relationship with the Sangiovese grape variety in Maremma Tuscany. A relationship built on love, which is expressed through great vintages, where old vines make for unique wines.
In 1974, the first vineyards were planted: Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo varieties. The company changed ownership in 2003 and invested itself fully in the production of quality red wines. Alberto and Leonardo Tanzini planted new vineyards (more than 90% of which were Sangiovese, divided into 8 different clones, alongside Alicante and Pugnitello varieties). The winery grew and its wines are now sold on three different continents. That same year, 2003, saw the creation of a team of workers that until today have enabled the company to achieve some of the best results in the field. 2015 was a year of recognition. All major guides have given the company maximum points.
Today, the Roccapesta farm produces 100,000 bottles, the result of taking the utmost care of the vineyards and the patience to let nature age the wines for the perfect amount of time in the estate’s winery.
The aim of Roccapesta is to produce red wines that are full of character and elegance, from medium to long fermentation. The passion, however, is in the expression of native vines grown in total respect for the environment. The wine comes exclusively from the company's own grapes and vineyards, while the vines are managed entirely by farm employees. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts, without the addition of any oenological additives.
