Rosso di Valtellina 2013 DOC

750ml bottle
Rosso di Valtellina is a wine made from Nebbiolo (95%) and other native grape varieties (5% – Pignola, Rossola and Brugnola), vinified and conditioned exclusively in steel containers. The grapes are harvested in mid-October in crates of about 20kg and taken immediately to the winery for pressing and destemming. Fermentation takes place in a stainless steel tank, with the must remaining on the skins for seven days before racking off and continuing the fermentation until the sugar is depleted. During the tumultuous fermentation phase, the must undergoes three cycles of delestage, to facilitate extraction of the colour and aromatic components of the skins; this operation also allows most of the grape seed to be removed, to prevent excessive tannins in the wine. The wine is then aged for twelve months in stainless steel tanks and twelve months in oak barrels before bottling. Le Strie is a small wine producer which cultivates approximately one hectare of vineyards and produces a very limited number of bottles: currently around 7500 per year. Our red wines, made from Nebbiolo grapes, are traditional products with a strong bond to their region of origin: Valtellina.
