Valtellina Superiore 2007 DOCG

750ml bottle
Valtellina Superiore is a wine made from Nebbiolo (95%) and other native local grape varieties (5% – Pignola, Rossola and Brugnola) which are vinified in the traditional way and fully express the characteristics of the Valtellina, where they are grown. This wine is vinified in two different ways according to the origin of the grapes used: those from the Sassella vineyards are harvested in 25kg crates in mid-October and immediately taken to the winery for pressing and destemming. Fermentation takes place in a stainless steel tank, with the must remaining on the skins for ten days before racking off and further fermentation until the sugars are depleted. Grapes from the Valgella subzone are harvested a week earlier in 4kg crates and undergo partial drying for just under a month. Here too, fermentation happens after destemming, with the must remaining on the skins for twelve days. The two wines are then combined and aged for eighteen months in medium-capacity oak barrels; after this the ageing process is completed with a further six months in stainless steel and nine months in the bottle; the result is this full-bodied wine. Le Strie is a small wine producer which cultivates approximately one hectare of vineyards and produces a very limited number of bottles: currently around 7500 per year. Our red wines, made from Nebbiolo grapes, are traditional products with a strong bond to their region of origin: Valtellina.
