In 2015, three organic farms, Bioram di Plataci (Cs), Santa Marina and Manfredi di Oriolo (CS) began collaborating on the production, processing and sale of organic Vulgare del Pollino oregano. The aim was to recover and give value to avariety of oregano native to Alto Jonio Cosentino, which grows on the eastern spurs of the Pollino National Park, on the Calabrian side.
Supported by an agronomist with expertise in medicinal herbs, they are commited to the cultivation of Pollino Viride oregano, a Calabrian endemic variety with one of the highest contents of essential oils. The cultivation method is ICEA organic-controlled.
The total cultivation area of the three farms exceeds 5 hectares. The oregano is dried naturally in special greenhouse tunnels, then processed and packaged by hand in the Bioram di Plataci workshop. The final product is an extremely fragrant oregano marketed in the form of packaged bunches, and crushed oregano, in different sizes.
